About adopting a Mixed Breed
"Mixed Breed" is the most common label on shelter listings, and it simply means the shelter could not point to one dominant breed. Sometimes staff have a guess, sometimes they do not, and DNA testing is rare in a shelter setting. What the label tells you is that the dog is a blend; what it cannot tell you is how that blend will behave.
For a puppy, mixed heritage makes adult size and energy harder to predict, so look at paw size, parents if known, and the shelter's best estimate rather than trusting a photo. For an adult, the guesswork is mostly over: the dog in front of you is the dog you will bring home, and staff can describe its energy, play style, and manners.
