She's affectionate, social, and enjoys being around both people and other animals. Abby gets along with other dogs and cats, making her a wonderful option for a home that already has furry family members. She's also friendly with people and loves receiving affection and being included in everyday life. One of Abby's favorite things is going for walks on leash. She would love a family who enjoys getting outside and can make regular walks part of their routine. For Abby, those walks aren't just exercise—they're a chance to explore, spend time with her people, and enjoy the world together. Her breed has not been provided, so rather than guessing based on appearance, she is best described as a mixed breed until more information is available. At only one year old, Abby is still a young dog with plenty of life ahead of her. Regular exercise, mental enrichment, companionship, and continued positive training will help her thrive. Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Abby's enjoyment of leash walks gives her family a great foundation for continuing her training and building a routine together. Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best, so adopters should be prepared to continue working on leash manners, basic commands, recall, house manners as needed, calm greetings, and household boundaries. Even though Abby is already social with dogs and cats, introductions to new pets should still be done gradually. Giving everyone time and space to become comfortable helps set the household up for success. Positive reinforcement, consistency, patience, and affection will help Abby understand what's expected of her while strengthening the bond she develops with her new family. The 3-3-3 Rule 3 Days to decompress and begin feeling safe 3 Weeks to understand her new household routine 3 Months to fully settle in, build trust, and feel at home These are guidelines rather than strict deadlines. Every dog adjusts at their own pace. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Abby is spayed and vaccinated. Her future family should continue providing routine veterinary examinations, recommended vaccine boosters, flea and parasite prevention, dental care, quality nutrition, healthy weight management, grooming, nail care, and veterinary treatment whenever necessary. Regular physical activity will also be important for keeping Abby healthy. Since she already loves her leash walks, maintaining a consistent walking routine is a great way to provide both physical exercise and mental stimulation.
