Meet Aunt May Pawrker

Aunt May Pawrker Aunt May is a super sweet silly young Chihuahua, likely under 2 years old, who needs a very patient, gentle home that understands sensitive chihuahuas who are learning the world is a good place. She is still scared by sudden movements, being approached too quickly, being picked up, and new things in general. A leash or harness currently causes her to freeze, so walking is still a work in progress. She would do best with someone who is home a lot, works from home, or is retired and has the time and patience to let her build trust at her own pace. She has done well with children visiting the home and is now best friends with her foster dog sibling, but anything new can still be scary for her. She would really love to have another dog in the home for emotional support and a playmate. This girl came to me from the shelter absolutely terrified. The first few days she wouldn't let me approach her, and she had no interest in my dog that I already had at home. Then the tiniest little tail wag finally arrived, and it was like she flipped a power switch and turned into a happy blur who lives for attention and affection almost instantly. She's still very apprehensive about being approached or picked up, but she's making progress every single day, and I'm so proud of her. Every day she shows me more and more how much she loves being an absolutely awkward goofball sweetheart. Her confidence is growing, but she's still a shy little love bug sometimes and really needs a person who is patient and can just be around to give her confidence. She is extremely gentle and isn't much into cuddling yet but she is making progress in that area and will ask for neck scratches ALL day long. The shelter estimated her to be about 8 years old, possibly a senior but this was because she didn't get a real exam right away because she was scared and nippy and wouldn't let them look at her teeth. Also, her coat wasn't in the best shape but now that she's received the proper vet care and quality flea meds her coat is coming. After being able to see her gorgeous white teeth and she still has them all we believe she is actually much younger, likely under 2 years old and possibly still in that more adolescent almost puppy stage. She is about 12 lbs. This lovely girl needs HUGE amounts of patience while she learns to trust. Loud, unexpected noises can send her into a small panic, although she snaps out of it quicker and quicker as the days go by. Sudden movements are still scary. She needs to see your intent before being touched and very much wants to observe where a hand is going before allowing herself to be loved. But once you get her attention and she realizes she's safe, she is READY to be scratched, massaged, and might even offer her belly for a gentle scratch. Her FOMO (fear of missing out) is off the charts. She would love to be loved 24/7, but she's also comfortable laying in bed all day while I'm at work. She doesn't get into the trash, doesn't chew things, and really doesn't make a mess other than the occasional bad aim on a potty pad. Right now, a leash or harness will shut her down and she'll freeze. We're slowly working on desensitizing her and building her confidence enough to eventually go on walks with me and my other dog. I can tell she wants to. She's just not ready to trust it yet. This girl has been a challenge, but a very welcomed one. She's so happy now and deserves the absolute best. Aunt May is not a dog for someone expecting an instantly confident, easy little Chihuahua. She needs someone who will let the relationship develop at her pace and understand that earning her trust is part of loving her.
