Meet Baxter, a sweet & gentle soul who is discovering just how good life can be! This gorgeous Standard Poodle mix is about three years old and weighs 62 pounds. He is gentle, a little shy, and has medium energy, the kind of dog who would rather lean quietly into you for affection than demand attention loudly. He loves playing with other dogs, soaking up pets, and even offers a full-body hug when he is feeling especially affectionate. Baxter spent most of his life without a home indoors, so many everyday experiences are brand new to him. He tends to be wary at first, needing a little coaching to feel safe, but once he learns something is not scary, it gets easier for him every time after. He arrived with severely matted fur and needed treatment for a related skin infection, but he has healed well, his hair has grown out, and Baxter has adjusted to life indoors with a hopeful, willing spirit. Baxter is house trained and he settles calmly into his crate once guided inside. Baxter gets along well with both dogs and cats, and he is expected to do great with kids too. He walks nicely on a leash, though he could use a little help loading into the car. Baxter would thrive with a patient family who understands where he is coming from and is ready to help guide him into the confident, loved family pet he is meant to be.
