Meet Monroe
Meet Monroe - a sweet, affectionate 8-year-old girl who is equal parts gentle cuddlebug and cheerful walking buddy, with a calm presence that makes her incredibly easy to love. Monroe is deeply people-oriented and thrives on closeness. In her foster home, she has shown just how much she loves being near her humans-leaning in for snuggles, resting her head on you for pets, or quietly curling up nearby while you relax. When she's not actively asking for affection, she's often happily snoozing close by, sometimes with an adorable little snore and her nose tucked into a blanket. She even has a signature "sploot" when she gets extra comfy. At home, Monroe has been a very easy guest. She is housebroken and settles well into a calm routine. She does well in the crate for short periods and remains calm and relaxed when left alone. Overall, she has been affectionate, steady, and very content just being part of the home environment. Monroe is also wonderfully social with people and has experience living with children of all ages, doing well in a family setting. She can get excited at times and may forget her size, but her overall temperament is sweet, friendly, and gentle. She enjoys meeting people out on walks and continues to show a warm, affectionate personality in all her interactions. Out on leash, Monroe enjoys her walks and is steadily improving. She can pull at the beginning when she's excited, but she settles into calmer, more enjoyable strolls as she goes. She is occasionally reactive to other dogs on leash but can be redirected with guidance and attention from her handler. Monroe has met other dogs at BARCS and prefers gentle playmates. She may need to meet any resident dogs to ensure they're a good match. She is food motivated and enjoys learning new skills-recently practicing things like "sit," "down," "wait," and even "touch." She responds well to positive reinforcement and enjoys engaging with her people. She also loves toys, especially chew toys and plush favorites, and is always happy to have something to keep her occupied. Monroe enjoys outings and has been a great companion on walks and park visits. She's also shown she can be sensitive to loud or sudden noises, but overall she recovers well and remains her affectionate, sweet self. She is calm, loving, and happiest when she is simply with her people. At her core, Monroe is a gentle, devoted companion who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She is the kind of dog who brings a peaceful, comforting presence to a home-equally happy joining you for a walk or curling up beside you for a quiet evening in. Monroe is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you're interested in meeting her, please complete an application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps.
