These are senior dogs whose time here ended before a forever family found them. Some waited in shelters or rescue care, still hoping for the comfort, safety, and love every old dog deserves.
They may not have made it home, but they still mattered. Each one had a name, a face, a story, and a heart worth remembering.
Fallen Angels exists so they are not forgotten — and so their memory reminds us why Lily’s Second Chance exists: to help more senior dogs be seen before it is too late.
Every senior dog deserves to be known, loved, and remembered.

Help make sure the next senior dog gets a second chance
Fallen Angels reminds us why this work matters — and what is still at stake for the senior dogs still waiting. Every action below helps an older dog be seen before it’s too late.
Meet a dog who still has time
Hundreds of senior dogs across the country are waiting for someone to notice them. Browse our adoptable seniors and find one who needs exactly what you have to give.
Fostering an older dog frees shelter space and gives them the calm, dignified time they deserve. Even a short foster stay can change everything. Reach out to a local rescue to ask how.
The more people see a senior dog’s face, the better the odds that the right family finds them. Sharing a dog’s listing takes seconds and can mean the difference between a shelter and a home.
Fallen Angels is a memorial for senior shelter dogs who passed away before finding a forever home — whether in a shelter, rescue care, or while still waiting. It exists so their lives are acknowledged, not forgotten, and so their memory keeps this work moving forward.
How do I submit a memorial for a fallen angel?
Use the “Remember a Fallen Angel” form at the top of this page. Share the dog’s name, a brief story, and an optional photo. Every submission is reviewed with care before it appears here. Please only submit memorials for dogs who passed away in shelter or rescue care, or while waiting for a home — not personal pets who passed at home.
Can I memorialize my own senior dog here?
The Fallen Angels page is specifically for dogs who passed while waiting for adoption or foster care — it is a tribute to those who didn’t make it out in time. If you want to honor a personal pet who passed away at home, our Memorial Wall is the right place.
Why do some senior dogs die in shelters before finding homes?
Senior dogs are the hardest to place in most shelter systems — they are often passed over for puppies and younger dogs, and many shelters have limited resources and capacity. Some dogs run out of time simply because not enough people knew they were there. That’s exactly the problem Lily’s Second Chance was built to fight: making older dogs visible before it’s too late.
Does Lily’s Second Chance rescue dogs directly?
No. Lily’s Second Chance is a visibility and advocacy organization, not a shelter or rescue. We surface senior dogs from partner shelters and rescues and link adopters directly to those organizations. We do not take in, transport, or rescue individual animals. If a senior dog needs urgent help, please contact a local rescue or shelter directly, or share their listing so more people see them in time.
