Meet Wiley

Meet Wiley! Wiley is named for his wiley ability to avoid the humans when he was running around the streets. We'll get to that story in a bit, but first we want to tell you what a shy sweetheart this guy is. Wiley is an approximately five-year-old Chihuahua mix (heavy on the mix!), weighing around 17 pounds. He is initially very nervous and avoidant with new people. Wiley has spent some time in a foster home and is doing amazing so far in a home setting, with a little time and patience. His foster mom says Wiley loves cuddling up in blankets and has even joined them for some cuddles in bed, recently. We feel Wiley would do best in a relatively quiet home with no children, and at least one other dog to show him the ropes. He thrives with routine, and as a part of a pack! Wiley needs a home setting (no apartments) with a secure fence/backyard and grass area, so his special paw doesn't get hurt on gravel. Wiley loves to sunbathe in the grass, and although he has a "bum" leg, he sure can move when he wants to! Wiley's foster mom says, "he is a sensitive soul that warms up quickly and makes every little bit of affection that much sweeter". A little more about Wiley's past: Wiley was humanely trapped while spotted as a stray; this was definitely not his first rodeo with the trap, and he avoided it for a bit until he was brought to safety off the streets. From there, Chi Town Rescue stepped in to take care of Wiley. You will have noticed Wiley's leg by now; this is a chronic condition and he has seen a specialist regarding treatment. Wiley has an old (and unknown) injury to that leg, that healed wrong. He has been walking like this for quite awhile and has adapted well. The specialists believe that Wiley has nerve damage in this leg and surgery to attempt a repair would not be successful. For now, the specialists believe that leaving Wiley's leg as-is, is the best course of action. If it starts to bother him at some point down the road, he may require amputation. His future family should be aware of this possibility and willing to provide Wiley with any necessary medical treatment in the future. Wiley would love to meet you! Email chitownrescue@gmail.com and we will get you in touch with his foster mom for a meet and greet. A home check is required prior to adopting Wiley. Wiley is neutered, has a microchip and is current on vaccines.
