Meet Maggie
Maggie's Journey to Love- Maggie is a 9-year-old German Shepherd with soulful eyes, 91 pounds of love (okay… maybe a little extra love), and a comeback story that deserves its own movie. She was rescued by Southeast German Shepherd Rescue after being found tied up in a backyard, having just given birth to 3 puppies, all of which died shortly thereafter. She came into foster care physically depleted, emotionally shutdown, scared of men, confused by normal household life, and startled by every loud noise. It’s clear that several humans failed her early on. But here’s the beautiful part — Maggie did not give up on people. Today, she is confident, affectionate, and thriving. The once-terrified girl now nudges her foster dad for pets and proudly flops over for belly rubs. She’s house trained, knows her basic commands, and has fully embraced indoor life. Comfy beds? Yes please. Tasty snacks? Absolutely, cheese is the best. Car rides? Don’t forget her spot by the window. She’s friendly and cooperative at the vet, has a blast at doggie daycare, and has even gone on vacations — including seeing the ocean and hiking on a camping trip! And perhaps the sweetest milestone of all: Maggie has learned how to play, running around in short goofy bursts of joy that show her inner puppy finally getting a chance to shine. She has been spayed, treated for whipworms and heartworms, and had surgery to remove two benign mammary tumors. Maggie has survived heartbreak, neglect, and fear — and somehow still wakes up every day ready to love. She may be a bit of a chunky queen, but she’s got pep in her step and a heart the size of her shepherd ears. All she needs now is a forever family who will cherish her, stand by her, and never let her down again. Maggie is being fostered in Monroe, NC. If you are interested in meeting her, please fill out an adoption application online.
