Meet Chance

Meet Chance! A seven-year-old Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler mix (with a few other breeds sprinkled in) currently in Porterville, CA, whose striking eyes and calm, laidback presence make every day feel a little more peaceful. This handsome large boy weighs about 95 pounds and carries his dark brown and tan coat like a gentle guardian of the backyard and the couch alike. Chance thrives in a family environment, does well with children, and truly loves being near his people. Whether he is resting at your feet, supervising dinner preparations from his designated kitchen doorway spot, or softly snoring in his crate, his steady companionship is a gift. He is house-trained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and even has transferable pet insurance to support his continued care. He settles very well when left alone and politely lets you know when it is time for a potty break. With his blend of Labrador friendliness and Rottweiler devotion, Chance is both affectionate and attentive. He may gently nudge with his nose to “help” guide you, and he benefits from clear boundaries and structured routines, especially around food. He is ruled by his nose and enjoys relaxed daily walks, including long 'sniffaris' where he can investigate every tree and lamppost. He does beautifully both on and off leash with familiar dogs and is compatible with other dogs and cats. In fact, he currently coexists peacefully with neighborhood cats and has even shared playful moments with them. Chance is an early riser around 5:00 to 5:30 a.m., appreciates consistent mealtimes, enjoys car rides, loves his drinking water, and requires regular grooming, including care for his extra dewclaws. He is not a frequent barker, though he will offer a big alert if someone approaches. He knows an impressive list of commands such as sit, stay, down, come, roll over, shake, go lay down, walk fast, and even “time for bed.” Recently, Chance began thyroid medication, and the positive changes have been wonderful to see! He is more energized, playful, and engaged, showing a renewed zest for life that makes his personality shine even brighter. His coat is improving as well, with hair growing back on his tail, a reassuring sign that his treatment is helping him feel his best. If you can offer companionship, structure and a cozy indoor sleeping space, could Chance be the loyal friend you have been hoping for?
