Meet Captain

Hi. I'm Captain. I'm 14, I play fetch, I do zoomies in the yard, and I take treats from your hand like a gentleman. Through some life changes I found myself looking for a new family — and I have a lot of love left to give. I may not see you very clearly. I may not hear your footsteps. But I will know you're there, and that's honestly enough for me. I'm calm in the car, happy to go places, and very serious about snuggling on the sofa. My Ideal Home A calm, loving household — ideally an older, retired person or couple who's home a lot and moves at a gentle pace. I do well with another calm, gentle dog friend, but I'm equally happy as the one and only. Good with older children, men, and women. I need a fenced yard to safely explore the world on my own terms. A Few Important Things to Know Vision and hearing loss: I can't see or hear well — but don't let that fool you. I navigate beautifully using familiar smells, routines, and people I trust. My forever family should know: calm, predictable environments are where I thrive. No sneaking up on me, please. Medical care: I have a prescription steroid spray used as needed for sebaceous cysts, and I wear a donut collar when things flare up. I also take Dasuquin, a joint supplement recommended by my vet. This routine keeps me comfortable — my adopter needs to be ready to maintain it. Special diet: I eat Authority Sensitive Stomach & Skin canned food, which provides the omega fatty acids my vet recommends. This one isn't up for negotiation — it keeps me feeling my best. Not tested with cats or small children: I've done wonderfully with older children, men, and women, but I haven't been formally introduced to cats or very young kids. Families with either aren't the right fit at this time. What I Bring to the Table I am, by every account, a very good boy. I'm quiet — genuinely quiet. I signal politely when I need to go out, and when I'm hungry I'll let you know in my own little "talking" way that I'm pretty sure is completely charming. I'm not possessive with my toys or my food, and I am very serious about bedtime — whether that's my own little bed with my blanket and toys curled up next to my person, or the big bed with you. I'm flexible like that.
