Meet David Austin, a delightful puppy with a name as charming as his personality. David Austin and his brothers Abraham Darby, Mr Lincoln, and Pierre De Ronsard, and sisters Gertrude and Polyantha are named after varieties of beautiful roses. David Rose is one goofy guy! This 7 month old hound mix would not be at the top of the class when it comes to smarts but he delivers when it comes to character and making people laugh. He enjoys toys, a good chew, snacks, and when you tell him he’s a good boy. David is friendly with all he’s met so far including other dogs and children. He enjoys his outside time romping around the yard with the other pups and just getting started on exploring what Rhode Island has to offer with walks along local trails and bike paths. David especially loves hikes in nature. David is a champ in his crate, house trained, and he is working on his leash skills every day. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. Adopting David Austin means bringing home a bundle of happiness that will fill your life with laughter and companionship. Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption. This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used.
