Training, Adjustment & What to Expect Diamond has adapted beautifully since entering rescue, but like many dogs with difficult pasts, she may need a little time to fully settle into a new home. Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care Owning a Pug is a lifelong commitment that includes routine veterinary care, companionship, exercise, and attention to the breed's unique needs. Diamond will need: Routine veterinary care and annual wellness exams Preventative flea, tick, heartworm, and parasite protection Proper nutrition to maintain a healthy weight Moderate daily exercise while avoiding overheating Plenty of companionship and mental enrichment A safe, stable indoor living environment As a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed, Diamond should avoid strenuous exercise during hot weather and should always have access to fresh water, shade, and air conditioning when temperatures rise. Diamond is an indoor family dog and is not to be chained or left outside.
