Meet Dixie

Dixie has come an incredible way since entering foster care. When she first arrived, she was so frightened that she spent her first week hiding under the bed and was afraid of even the smallest noises. Today, she is a completely different dog who enjoys daily walks, lounging on the couch, and having the freedom to explore her fenced yard. She is housebroken, walks beautifully on leash, and has never been destructive when left loose in the home. Dixie is also peacefully living with a cat, and her foster family has even caught the two of them cuddling together on the couch. She isn't interested in toys or treats, but she absolutely loves being petted and has earned the nickname “Tater” because she has become quite the couch potato! Dixie is still a shy girl who needs time to trust new people and feel comfortable in new situations. Young children and quick, unexpected movements can frighten her, so she would do best in a quiet home with adults or older, respectful children. She is curious about other dogs but prefers calm companions and will happily move away from dogs that are too excitable. Her foster family has also noticed some separation anxiety, although she remains trustworthy and non-destructive when left alone. Dixie may need a little help coming inside from the yard, and she has learned that digging in cool soil is a good way to beat the Florida heat, but these are small quirks compared to how much she has grown. She is looking for someone patient and kind who will let her build a relationship at her own pace. Given time, Dixie has all the potential to become a deeply devoted companion who simply wants a quiet couch, a peaceful home, and someone she can call her person.
