Meet Glenda

I am a sweet girl that came to the shelter as a stray. I have heartworms and OCAS is treating me, they can tell you more about that if you are interested in me! In North Carolina, it's unfortunately common to see many dogs that are infected with heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage in dogs. It's usually fatal if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is costly. Insights from my friends, adventure buddies, or foster family: Glenda is very loving! She is very well leash trained and walks quite well. Despite being easily startled, she is very friendly and loves to lick your hands. She is so loving yet so gentle. Glenda doesn’t jump up, but she does little play bows when she gets excited. Glenda has such a sweet and gentle disposition. She appeared timid and sometimes frightened/uneasy of new things, for example she seemed very aware of cars passing by on our walk and seemed to pull away at times. It was also challenging to coax her into the car, but once she was inside she rode calmly. She was however, very motivated and responsive to praise and encouragement. Glenda is such a sweet and gentle dog and really embraced getting pets and affection. With patience and exposure I am hopeful she will become more confident. She seemed to really enjoy hiking in the woods and taking in the different scents. She walks great on leash and did not pull. After our walk she found a nice patch of grass to roll around and stretch. Glenda has the sweetest and most gentle disposition. She is very responsive to praise/motivation and will make a wonderful companion. She has a playful and sweet energy. She was a little timid at first but quickly warmed up. She’s very good on the leash and enjoyed being petted. She enjoyed treats and giving kisses. We saw one person and dog and she was friendly and sweet. She is the sweetest sweet girl and loves giving kisses. Loud things stress her out. She LOVES the car and will plop right down. Didn’t care for windows down. She walked very well and was quite curious, just tended to want to walk in the opposite direction as cars. Didn’t pull, would just get scared with tail between legs and sit for a minute. Pets would cheer her right up though! We walked around UMC campus, hung out outside my house and met lots of people and got lots of pets! She is so loving and kind. When you bend over she instantly tries kissing your ears and neck. She is so sweet and precious and lets you pet her all over.
