MEET KATIE A Loving Australian Shepherd and Cattle Dog Mix Katie is a 4-year-old Australian Shepherd–Australian Cattle Dog mix who has been patiently waiting for her person, couple, or family to find her. She has watched so many of the dogs in her shelter-foster home come and go, and EVERYONE on staff—from volunteers to animal control officers, vet techs, and fosters—agrees. It’s absolutely time for Katie to have a family to love her! Katie is the perfect medium-sized combination of two wonderful breeds, weighing just 45 pounds fully grown. Katie is very mellow once she settles in. When she first comes out of her kennel, she may run off a few initial zoomies, but after that, she is content to relax and play with her toys. And Katie absolutely LOVES toys! Stuffed toys, hard chews, squeaky toys, crinkle toys—she enjoys them all! More About Katie * Mellow and affectionate: Katie settles in nicely and enjoys spending time with her people.* A toy lover: She is happy to play with just about any kind of toy.* Great with dogs: Katie enjoys having canine friends.* Respectful of cats: She has lived appropriately around cats.* Wonderful on leash: Volunteers say she walks beautifully.* Gentle with treats: Katie takes treats politely.* Excellent kennel manners: She rarely has an accident in her kennel.* Communicative: When she is in the office, she vocalizes to let staff know when she needs to go outside. The Animal Control Officers say Katie is one of their favorites and that she is the whole package! She is a special girl with so much love and companionship to offer. Katie will need a thoughtful and patient adopter who understands the importance of decompression, including the 3-3-3 rule. She is very responsive to the energy level of her people and often uses body language to communicate. Katie has shown herself to be great with dogs, respectful of cats, and a wonderful companion once she has settled in and become comfortable in her new environment. Could Katie Be Your Girl? General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Our philosophy is to rescue highly adoptable dogs, have them live kennel-free in private homes for temperament assessments and individual personalities. We work hard to match EACH dog with the right family - kids or no kids, other dogs male or female and/or cats. With very rare exceptions all dogs over 6 months will be spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption - dogs under 6 months will include a spay/neuter date AND referral info for lower-cost surgery if the adopter does not choose to use her or his personal vet. OUR VETS WILL NOT PERFORM SPAY NEUTER SURGERIES UNTIL DOG IS 6 MONTHS OLD.
