Meet Ladybird
Ladybird is a 5-year-old, 37-pound Staffordshire Terrier mix and a certified snuggle bug who wants nothing more than to be close to her people! Quick Facts: Name: Ladybird Breed: Staffordshire Terrier Mix Age: 5 years old Weight: 37 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Select dogs with proper introduction Good with Cats: No (chases cats) Good with Kids: Yes (she has only met kids over 12 and does well with respectful, calm energy) Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No Dog's Location: Louisburg, NC Medical Notes: Ladybird is Heartworm Positive and is currently undergoing treatment. She can be adopted prior to completing treatment and all treatment expenses will be paid for by CrisisDogs NC through one of our approved vet clinics. Heartworm treatment involves a series of medications and injections designed to safely eliminate the heartworms. During treatment, dogs need a period of restricted activity and exercise so their bodies can safely process and eliminate the dying worms. While it requires some patience and management, heartworm disease is treatable, and most dogs go on to live happy, healthy lives once treatment is complete! The entire treatment process will last until approximately the end of January 2027. About Ladybird’s Breed: Our best guess is that Ladybird is a Staffordshire Terrier mix. Staffordshire Terrier mixes are often known for being affectionate, people-oriented dogs who form strong bonds with their families. They typically combine a playful, athletic nature with a loving side, making them equally happy joining you for walks and adventures or snuggling up on the couch at the end of the day. Their ideal home is one that provides plenty of companionship, regular exercise, and opportunities to be included in family activities. Staffordshire Terrier mixes tend to thrive with positive training, consistent routines, and owners who appreciate having a loyal, devoted companion by their side. While individual personalities vary, many do best in homes where they receive lots of attention and can be an active part of the family. What to Love about Ladybird: If you're looking for a best friend who thinks there's no such thing as too many cuddles, look no further than Ladybird! Whether she's curled up beside you on the couch, riding shotgun on a car adventure, or greeting visitors at the door, Ladybird's tail is always wagging and her heart is always full of love! Ladybird has truly never met a stranger. She loves everyone she encounters and is always excited to make new friends. She enjoys daily walks and is wonderful on leash. In fact, once she's finished taking care of her business, she's often ready to head right back inside for more quality time with her favorite humans (total “house hippo energy”)! This sweet girl also loves to play fetch... though she's still working on the "bring it back" part of the game. She knows how to sit, proudly offers a paw for treats, and is always eager to earn praise and attention. When she's not playing, you'll likely find her soaking up belly rubs or finding the perfect spot on the couch next to you. Ladybird is potty trained, crate trained, and has such excellent house manners that she can even be left loose in the home when you're away. She's a mature, well-behaved companion who understands how to relax and enjoy the comforts of home. While Ladybird adores people, she would likely do best as an only pet or in a home willing to give her time and patience to properly adjust to another dog. She does well with slow, thoughtful introductions and once she makes a canine friend, she enjoys playing with them. She has met cats in a previous foster home, but because she has shown interest in aggressively chasing them in the past, a cat-free home would likely be best. Ladybird hasn't lived with children, but based on her friendly and affectionate nature, she would likely do well with respectful kids after a meet-and-greet. One thing you'll notice on walks is that Ladybird can get excited when she spots other dogs and may bark or jump a bit. Don't worry, she's not being rude, she's simply eager to say hello! With continued guidance and training, she's learning that not every dog she sees is ready for a meet-and-greet! Ladybird is currently Heartworm Positive and undergoing treatment. The good news is that CrisisDogs NC will cover the cost of her heartworm treatment even if she is adopted before treatment is completed. Treatment must be completed through one of the rescue's approved veterinary partners. Ladybird is ready to find a family who will love her through the remainder of her treatment and beyond. In return, she'll provide endless cuddles, loyal companionship, and enough affection to fill your home every single day.
