She's a sweet young girl with a lovable personality, a playful spirit, and plenty of affection waiting for the family lucky enough to call her their own. Leia is good with other dogs and children, while her compatibility with cats is currently unknown. At only one year old, Leia is still a young dog with plenty of energy and curiosity, but she's beginning to move beyond the puppy stage. She's at a wonderful age for a family looking for a little companion they can continue training, exploring with, and building a lifelong bond with. ❤️ Personality & Breed Information Border Terriers are known for being friendly, affectionate, curious, and full of personality. They often have a wonderful combination of playful Terrier energy and a loving, people-oriented nature, making them fun little companions who enjoy being part of everyday family life. As a Terrier, they may also be bright, confident, adventurous, and eager to explore. They benefit from daily walks, playtime, mental enrichment, and positive-reinforcement training to keep both their body and mind engaged. With plenty of affection, consistency, and opportunities to have fun, a Border Terrier can make a loving, entertaining, and devoted little companion Training, Adjustment & What to Expect At one year old, Leia is still learning and maturing. Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best, so her adopter should be prepared to continue working on house training as needed, leash manners, basic commands, recall, household boundaries, and positive socialization. Small dogs need training and structure just as much as larger dogs. Positive reinforcement, patience, and consistency will help Leia understand what is expected of her while strengthening the bond she shares with her new family. Her adopter should review her medical records with a veterinarian and continue routine wellness examinations, recommended vaccinations, parasite prevention, dental care, quality nutrition, grooming, nail care, healthy weight management, and veterinary treatment whenever necessary. Dental care is especially important for small dogs, so Leia's teeth and gums should be monitored throughout her life. Her coat may also require routine professional grooming depending on its length and texture. If Leia has inherited the shorter facial structure sometimes seen in Shih Tzus, her family should be mindful of heat and strenuous exercise, especially during hot or humid weather.
