Here's Your Quick Peek: Tiny Lydia is a four-pound whirlwind of affection, playfulness and gloriously goofy energy who never seems to stop moving. She loves people, enjoys playing with small dogs and needs an active family ready to help her learn leash and house-training skills. Her family must use a slow-feeder bowl at every meal and provide regular professional grooming throughout her life. Exercise: High for such a tiny dog. Lydia is busy, playful and always in motion. She will enjoy walks and active play once her leash skills improve, but her size must be considered when choosing safe activities. Best with: People who want an affectionate, lively companion and do not expect a quiet lap ornament. Someone home regularly would suit her well. She enjoys playful interaction with other small dogs. Not ideal for: A very sedentary home or anyone seeking a calm, low-energy companion. Lydia may eventually settle into a lap—but she will probably circle it several times first. Energy level: Medium - she is very happy and can go and go but she is tiny so we're choosing medium for her energy level. The name Beetle belonged to the dog who arrived matted, starving and nearly lost beneath everything that had happened to her. Lydia is the dog emerging now—bright, affectionate, ridiculous, resilient and far too busy enjoying life to stand still for a photograph. Good with dogs: Yes with small dogs. She is playful and can be rough-and-tumble despite her tiny size. Her response to large dogs has not yet been evaluated. Good with kids: Unknown. Because Lydia is extremely small and active, any children in the home must be old enough, gentle enough, and taught dog skills so they handle her carefully and respectfully. Cats: Not yet tested - but she can be. Our new tester cat Twix is eager to go to work. Fun fact: The photographer could barely photograph her, the veterinarian called her a gnat, and both descriptions are accurate. Lydia is less a dog who enters a room than a tiny weather event that happens inside it.
