Training, Adjustment & What to Expect At five months old, Maggie is still very much a puppy. Adopters should be prepared for all the normal parts of raising a young dog. She may need continued work on house training, leash manners, basic commands, appropriate chewing, boundaries, and learning how to settle calmly. Even if she already knows some skills, those skills will need to be reinforced when she moves into a completely new environment. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and patience are especially important during this stage. The work her family puts into training now will help shape the adult dog Maggie becomes.
