Sometimes life changes the plan, and Mason is now looking for a new chapter with someone who understands that the best relationships are built one tiny paw step at a time. Mason is a 19-pound miniature poodle with a soft heart and a slightly shy personality. He may not be the guy who bursts through the door yelling, “PARTY TIME!” Instead, he prefers a calm introduction, a little patience, and humans who let him decide when it’s time to become your best friend. And once he settles in? That sweet little poodle heart really starts to shine. Mason’s résumé includes: Dog friendly Cat friendly Affectionate once he feels comfortable Does well in a crate for short stretches Learning leash skills and gaining confidence Potty training is coming along nicely Mason is looking for a home with a steady routine, calm humans, and plenty of patience. Someone who is home most of the time would be ideal. A friendly canine roommate would be a wonderful bonus! He does require a physically fenced yard, and he is not looking for a home where he’ll be alone for long hours. Mason isn’t asking for a lot. Just a peaceful home, kind people, a little time to decompress, and someone who understands that shy boys sometimes need a minute before they reveal their goofy, cuddly side. Basically, Mason is looking for his people. The ones who say, “Take your time, buddy. We’ve got you.” Could you be Mason’s happily-ever-after? MASON UPDATE 8/30/2026 Mason came back to DDR, his mom developed mobility issues and works long hours. Mason is seeking a calm, loving home with patient humans who appreciate a gentle companion and don't mind going slow. Mason is a miniature poodle, about 19-pound with a sweet, soft temperament, rather shy, but would warm up with calm, steady attention over time. Core strengths: Dog and cat friendly, affectionate once settled, does well in a crate for short stretches. Skills in progress. Walking on leash, doing well and building confidence. Because of his past history he does require a physically fenced yard. Potty training is coming along well. Mason needs a steady routine and a calm approach. Ideal environment. Would thrive with someone home most of the time. Another friendly pet is a plus. Not a great fit for long hours alone. MASON UPDATE Jan 7th 2025 Hi, I'm Mason! I came to Dakota Dachshund Rescue as a breeder release and I am thoroughly enjoying this new life of mine as a family pet! I am still very scared of new people and new situations - oh and loud noises or quick movements. This world is all new to me! But if you are patient and kind to me, I will warm up and be your best friend! I promise. My current foster mom is my best friend. I follow her wherever she goes - upstairs, downstairs, bedroom, bathroom, couch, you name it. If she is there, so am I! Though I prefer she stay in one place so I can rest on my dog bed and keep an eye on her. My dog bed is my safe spot. Except when she leaves. I really, really don't enjoy being left home without her. Although I get along great with my fellow dog-mates, my foster mom is my favorite. But I do love running around my backyard with them! That's about the only way I get my exercise because I WILL NOT walk on a leash. My foster mom has tried and tried, but as soon as she picks up the leash, I refuse to move. So a fenced in backyard is a must for me so I can get my exercise! And the fence needs to be high. I can be a bit of an escape artist. I already escaped from a temporary foster home once. It was terrifying, and I went missing for 10 whole days. I'm so thankful they found me, and don't want to go through that again! So a nice, solid fence is important. Do you think you have a spot for me? Hi, I'm Mason. I am a sweet boy just starting my journey to become a house pet. I am learning to wear a harness and introduced to a leash, not my favorite yet but I am coming along slowly. I do require a fenced yard. am learning about housetraining, bellybands are new to me but it reminds me I have to wait to go potty outside. My foster mom takes me out on a schedule to teach me. Can you help me continue on my journey and become a special part of your family? I am 5 1/2 yrs old, I weigh 17 pounds, my adoption fee is $325 plus sales tax $14.63=$339.63 My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter, dental and microchipping.
