Meet Monty

Meet Monty! A spirited three-year-old Shepherd mix currently in Youngsville, NC, whose gentle soul and handsome tan coat come wrapped in equal parts sweetness, caution, and wonderfully quirky charm. At about 40 pounds, this medium-sized boy is a devoted homebody who firmly believes the backyard offers all the adventure anyone could possibly need! Monty does not believe in instant friendships. Strangers make him nervous, and his attempts at playing protector often look more like barking from a very safe distance while trembling. Think security system with anxiety. Give him time, patience, and space, though, and something beautiful happens. Once Monty decides you are trustworthy, he becomes an affectionate companion who loves deeply, seeks attention, and happily sticks close like a small, emotionally dependent shadow. Other dogs are Monty’s confidence boosters! He loves canine companionship and needs a friendly, confident dog in his new loving home to help him feel secure and grounded. He is also compatible with cats and horses. An adult home is suitable for Monty right now because children are unfamiliar and may feel overwhelming. His favorite days are refreshingly simple: playing outside with dog friends in a securely fenced yard, chewing bones, carrying around stuffed animals, snuggling, eating his twice-daily meals, and settling in for television time. Walks and car rides are not on Monty’s itinerary. Storms, strangers, and unfamiliar experiences can also make him anxious, and occasionally he becomes worried about mysteries his humans cannot identify. Wind? A tiny noise? A ghost with poor social skills? Monty is keeping that information confidential! Monty is house-trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He also receives dental chews regularly. He has not had formal obedience training or learned commands yet, so patient learning opportunities and positive reinforcement can help build his confidence. A calm, understanding family with a fenced yard, another friendly dog, and respect for Monty’s boundaries will help this tenderhearted boy flourish!
