Meet Nigel

Nigel is a goofy, affectionate, food-motivated guy between 2 and 4 years old. He loves long walks, playful adventures, squirrel hunting, and spending time with the people he loves. Once Nigel gets to know you, he enjoys being close and showing off his fun, playful personality. Nigel is house trained and crate trained, and he knows how to settle into his routine. He currently spends much of his day playing with his 6-year-old female husky friend, but he can be picky about his dog buddies and would need careful introductions and the right canine match. He could also thrive as an only dog, where he can enjoy having his people all to himself. Nigel has a high prey drive and loves chasing squirrels, so a secure, high fence is essential. He also enjoys digging and will need appropriate outlets for his energy and curiosity. Nigel’s adopters should understand and be prepared to manage resource guarding. He may guard high-value treats and food from both dogs and people, and he can snap or nip when he feels his resources are threatened. For this reason, all food and treats are currently given in his crate, and his future family will need to continue using thoughtful management and positive training around meals, treats, and other valued items. He would do best with experienced adopters who can respect his boundaries and help him build trust. Nigel has had limited exposure to children under about 14, so an adult home or a home with older, dog-savvy children would be the best fit. Although he has shown a playful side with children, his resource guarding means that all interactions involving food, treats, or prized items must be carefully supervised and managed. Nigel is a loving, playful companion with plenty of personality. With the right home, clear boundaries, secure fencing, and patient guidance, he can be a wonderful friend and adventure buddy.
