OTIS NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Otis Best Guess for Breed: Terrier and sheltie mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of July 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 19 lbs Gets Along With: Otis does well with other dogs and is currently living with cats in his foster home. He’s done well when meeting young kids and we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Otis was rescued from a hoarding situation in South Carolina. He has not been well socialized with new people and has lived his whole life with other dogs. New nosies, cars, bikes, and other things may create fear and anxiety. He will need a patient adopter who can give him time to come out of his shell and learn that the world is a wonderful and welcoming place. And because he is shy, he needs to go to a home that either has a confident, welcoming resident dog or will commit to providing him with opportunities to socialize with other dogs at least every other day. Otis is Looking For: His forever home, filled with snuggles and opportunities to see the world outside of a kennel. One where he is a cherished part of a family. He's very sweet, and SO ready to be a Real Dog. He's a young boy and hasn't seen nearly enough of the world! Extra patient and loving humans who introduce him to new places and people at his pace are exactly what he wants! Along with quality kibble, a cushy dog bed, and endless snuggles. You know what you get out of adopting a dog like that? An incredibly sweet and grateful dog who gives you all those adoring gazes, all the love and loyalty in his body, for all his days. The poor little guy hurt his leg while playing with another dog and needs to take it easy for a few more weeks. He was anxious when he first arrived from the shelter and still has some nervous energy, but is now confident on walks and loves exploring and investigating, both inside and outside the house. He takes cues from both of my dogs beautifully and immediately defers to them if they give him signs to back off. In the evenings, he usually curls up on the couch next to the other dogs and me and is totally chill while we watch TV. Otis is doing great with the cats in my home and now counts at least three of them as his friends. Second Foster update: Otis is very sweet and confident. Overall, he’s settling in well and sleeps through the night in his crate. He recently met some young children (ages three and five) and was great with them. On walks he ignores other dogs and focuses on where he’s going next. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
