Meet Patches

Loyal, affectionate, and goofy - Patches is the complete package! Patches is estimated to be around 2 years old, and he is a darling boy looking for a special family to call his own. He has the funniest little personality and is a comical guy who loves his people. Patches is a moderate-energy guy who would thrive in a quiet home with a family to shower him with love. Patches is the perfect small/medium size, weighing around 20lbs. Patches was found as a stray and brought to a high-kill shelter in Central California. He was scared and shut down at the shelter, and the volunteers knew he would blossom outside the shelter environment. We were able to save him, and he has been charming us with his loving personality ever since. Patches is a sweet and sensitive boy who bonds strongly with his people. He can be unsure of strangers, especially in his foster home, but we have found he can make new human friends with the help of treats and meeting in a neutral place. Once you become his friend, he will want to be in your lap and to get lots of love. Patches needs a family who will advocate for him and make sure he is slowly introduced to new people, or kept in his crate when guests are over. Patches has been doing great in a home with a foster mom and dad, and appears to love them equally. He joined them for a holiday weekend trip to their mountain cabin, and he did great meeting their adult kids. He loved having the space to run in the great outdoors! Patches loves his toys and daily walks. He is a pretty good walker, but will sometimes bark at other dogs when he is excited. He has some basic manners training and has great manners around the house (although he does enjoy stealing socks). Patches has done very well living with other dogs. He does best with other playful dogs, as he can be persistent about wanting to play. He also could do well as an only dog. Patches currently lives with a cat, but is pretty obnoxious about trying to get the cat to play with him. Unless your cat would like a dog to play with, he would do best in a kitty-free home. Patches needs an adult-only home. Patches is house and crate trained. He is content hanging out in his crate during the day and sleeps through the night in there. Since he isn't a big fan of guests, he is happy to hang out in his crate in the bedroom when people he doesn't know come over. Patches takes his role as the house alarm system seriously, so he wouldn't be a good fit to live in an apartment. Patches takes a daily anti-anxiety medication to help him with his general anxiety. It has helped him tremendously and is a fairly affordable medication (around $20 for a month's supply). Patches is such a sweet guy and is going to bring so much joy and love to his new family. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
