Meet Phillip

Meet Phillip, the mixed breed boy. We suspect he has some Doberman pinscher in him but he is only 20lbs, so likely mixed with something smaller. A good Samaritan found in as a stray on the side of the road. Understandably, Phillip was a little scared from the whole situation and needed time to acclimate to the Shelter environment and staff. After a few days, he showed his soft sweet side with staff and volunteers. He is not confident about walking on leash and will need a patient, dog savvy adopter to help him acclimate to that skill. To help with potty training in the meantime, a home with a securely fenced backyard is recommended. Phillip met a dog around his side and was unsure but interested in her. A home with a mellow dog may be a fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. A home with cats may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Phillip is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
