Meet Powerade Powerade is a 3-year-old yellow lab mix with the softest eyes and the sweetest soul. He might start off a little shy, but give him a minute (and maybe a treat), and suddenly you’ve got a full-blown Velcro dog who thinks your personal space is a myth. Pow may have had a rough start, judging by some of his scars - but he’s well on his way to a happier life! His luck began to change one cold, December day when he ran into the Food Lion on Alamance Church Rd in Greensboro, seeking warmth and help. GCAS Animal Control picked him up and brought him to the shelter, even allowing him to ride shotgun on the way there! After some time at GCAS he began to show signs of stress and was able to go to foster. While in foster, we’ve learned that this guy is the total package: - House trained - Crate trained - Walks nicely on leash - Knows “sit” (especially if snacks are involved) - Treat and toy motivated (fetch = his love language) Once he warms up, Powerade is goofy, playful, and so affectionate. He loves a good game of fetch just as much as he loves melting into you for snuggles. He will follow you room to room just to make sure he’s not missing out (can we say FOMO?) Pow does have a couple of endearing quirks: Occasionally jumps up when he’s excited, but redirects beautifully into a sit Can be a little “mouthy” in an affectionate, playful way—he uses his mouth to explore the world, and responds well to gentle correction Powerade would thrive in a home that understands his sensitive side: Has done well with kids as young as 3, but due to his size and occasional jumping up would likely do best with older kids or adults No cats or small animals (that retriever instinct is strong) Could potentially live with another dog with very slow, thoughtful introductions, but may also be happiest as your one-and-only. He has done well with other dogs in public spaces and frequently “buddy walks” with friends in the neighborhood. Health note: Powerade previously tested heartworm positive while at the shelter, but has been on treatment since that time and is due for a recheck - if still positive, he will undergo additional treatment. Regardless, he’s on the right track and ready for his next chapter. What makes Powerade truly special is his heart. This boy has been through a lot, but you’d never know it by how deeply he loves. He is trusting, loyal, and endlessly affectionate—a certified good boy who just wants someone to belong to.
