Meet Roberto

Roberto (A1413997) has been placed on FINAL on 10/10/2026.He must be pulled prior to 5:00 PM on 10/17/2026 or he will be humanely euthanized. Roberto has had consistent high Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) since coming into the shelter. When someone would approach him, he would cower and run away. This behavior has only minimally improved since being in the shelter for over a month. He is now able to go on walks with someone who has been working with him, but is still very fearful with most people. When trying to handle him, dog will flinch, thrash, and attempt to bite. Once Roberto is in the yard, he hides at the fence line and does not move, even with other dogs in the yard. Only after being left alone in the yard for 20 minutes did he move. He moved from the fence line at the front of the yard, to the fence line in the sun at the side of the yard. There has been minimal improvements even after being at the shelter for over a month. Roberto's constant fearfulness is contributing to his VERY POOR quality of life. The shelter is no environment for a fearful dog and he will not be able to improve here. ****ROBERTO IS AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE OR ADOPTION WITH A WAIVER**** EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal's Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 10/17/2026 10:00 a.m. on the noted final date via email to SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor.09/19/26 15:03Dog is in not thriving in shelter environment.
