Meet Rumi

Update 9/14: While Rumi has been quite friendly at the shelter, he has struggled with meeting or encountering new people in several adoptive homes. He would love a home with someone who can offer support or advocate for Rumi's space when needed. Rumi has been an absolute gentleman at the vet, has met other dogs successfully, and is so much fun! This is what one of our veterinarians had to say about him: `Rumi is a sweet, affectionate boy who enjoys spending time with his people. He happily leans in for pets, takes treats gently, and has done well with handling and grooming. He also enjoys running around the yard and has done well playing with other social, energetic dogs. Like many young dogs, Rumi is still working on his manners. He can be enthusiastic on leash and would benefit from continued positive reinforcement training to help him develop good leash skills and basic cues. His previous owner also reported that he escaped through open doors on several occasions, so he'll need a home that is mindful about keeping doors and gates secure. With love, consistency, and opportunities to play and explore, Rumi will make a fun and loyal companion.` @vcanimalservices Two surgeries later, Rumi and his (lack of tail) are ready to find a home! Meet Dr. Hannah, one of our shelter veterinarians at Ventura County Animal Services as she tells us about a favorite recent patient, Rumi the 2 year old Dobie/Shepherd mix. Rumi arrived at the shelter missing most of his tail, and with a nasty infection. When his tail didn’t respond to several weeks of treatment by our vet team, the VCAS Foundation and your donations were able to send Rumi out for a specialty surgery at VetSurg! Rumi remained an absolute gentleman throughout it all - even when his tail got infected AGAIN and required an additional procedure, plus crate rest in the vet’s office. Those in vetmed know just how special it is to meet a dog so well behaved and laid back for the vet! Rumi really was the perfect patient. All of that to say, Rumi is healed up beautifully and ready to be adopted! He’s open to meeting other doggies, and no further complications with his tail are anticipated.
