Meet Rumor

Every now and then, a Shar Pei walks through the door and you just know there’s a story there. Meet Rumi. Her story starts with a kind woman in Phoenix who found her and did the right thing by getting her to the local humane society. Unfortunately, that’s where the story took a turn we’re still trying to understand. Rumi had eye surgery. We’re told her eyes were “fixed.” Her foster mom has a very specific look on her face when she says the word fixed. We’ll leave that there. What we do know is that Rumi was subsequently placed on the euthanasia list. And that is where we draw the line. Because this girl is something pretty special. She’s a stunning chocolate brushcoat , housetrained, and absolutely fantastic with other dogs. She has settled in beautifully with her foster pack. People can be complicated. Dogs are usually much easier. Give Rumi 24 hours and she’ll show you exactly what we mean. She arrived frightened and unsure. A day later, she was allowing her foster mom to kiss her giant Pei nose … …and she even gave her a little tail wag. For a Shar Pei who has been through some pretty confusing chapters, that tiny wag says a whole lot. Next chapter: a Shar Pei specialist , because those eyes deserve to be properly evaluated and cared for. We don’t know yet exactly where Rumi’s story will take her. But we know where it’s going to take her from here: Forward. And preferably toward a life where nobody ever again looks at a beautiful chocolate Shar Pei and sees a reason to give
