Meet Shy

Meet Shy! Shy is a white Chihuahua with the sweetest little personality beginning to shine through. She came from a hoarding situation where she had very little positive human interaction. When she first arrived in foster care, she was extremely frightened, underweight, and afraid of being touched. With patience and the guidance of her foster dog siblings, Shy has blossomed into a happy, playful little girl. She loves chasing toys, playing with the other dogs, and following her people from room to room. Watching her discover how to simply be a dog has been incredibly rewarding. Shy is still working on house training. She does have accidents but tries to use pee pads and does best when taken outside on a regular schedule. While her confidence around other dogs has grown tremendously, she is still learning to trust people. She happily takes treats from your hand, enjoys being close to you, and wants to be part of whatever you’re doing—but physical affection is still scary for her. Shy prefers to approach you on her own terms rather than being reached for, and her future family will need to respect her pace as she continues to build confidence. Shy is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will celebrate the little victories and allow her the time she needs to form a bond. She prefers women and is much more skittish around men, so a woman adopter would be ideal. She would thrive in a home with small to medium-sized friendly dogs who can continue to show her that the world is a safe place. A securely fenced yard is ideal, as she is not yet leash trained. Shy may not be the kind of dog who jumps into your lap on day one, but for someone willing to earn her trust, she’ll be an incredibly special companion. Every step she takes is a reminder of just how resilient dogs can be, and she deserves a family that will let her continue to bloom.
