Meet Spice
Meet Spice! 🐾 Spice is a sweet, gentle 2-year-old girl who is slowly discovering what it feels like to relax, feel safe, and enjoy simply being part of a home. She can be shy and nervous at first, and her new family will need to give her time to decompress and adjust at her own pace. But little by little, Spice is already showing her foster just how much she wants to be close to her people. She has started leaving the comfort of her crate to look for her foster, jumping onto the couch when invited, and happily settling nearby for some of her favorite ear and neck scratches. Spice is house trained and lets her foster know when she needs to go outside. She also walks well on leash and currently enjoys short, relaxed sniff walks and spending time outside in the yard. Her crate is very much her safe space. Her foster leaves the door open during the day so Spice can come and go as she pleases, and she chooses to spend time there when she wants to feel secure. A crate should continue to be available to her in her adoptive home so she always has a comfortable place of her own. Spice has done well around other dogs. At a recent adoption event, she calmly interacted with several dogs and wasn’t bothered by larger dogs barking nearby. She also seemed especially drawn to the young children she met and was very gentle with them. She is low energy so far and happiest napping or simply being near her people. Toys haven’t caught her interest yet, and she isn’t particularly interested in treats either, but Spice is still decompressing and showing more of herself as she becomes comfortable. Loud or sudden noises can startle her, so patience and a calm approach will go a long way. She rides nicely in the car, settling into her car bed after a few minutes, and she has been an exceptionally quiet houseguest. She even has an adorable little habit of softly snoring while she sleeps. Spice would do especially well with someone who is home often and understands that trust doesn’t have to happen overnight. A quieter home where she can settle into a predictable routine, take things at her own pace, and always have her safe space would help her continue to blossom. Spice isn’t asking for much. Right now, she’s happiest just being nearby, getting gentle scratches, taking a peaceful nap, and learning that she is safe. With a patient family willing to let her unfold in her own time, we think there is so much more of this sweet girl waiting to emerge. ❤️ This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.
