SPUNKY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Spunky and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (8/23) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)! Name: Spunky Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of July 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 23 lbs Gets Along With: Spunky gets along well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. Spunky is also shy and must go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. Spunky is Looking For: Spunky is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. She wants nothing more than to embody her name, to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved family pet. To get there, she needs extra loving and patient adopters who understand how the tremendous change in environment and her past life have made Spunky uncertain in new surroundings. She needs a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes as well. Most of all, though, she wants to know where she belongs, to be safe and loved all her days. What My Foster Says About Me: Spunky is a sweet dog who is very shy and needs time to adjust to new surroundings. Her first night in our home she huddled in the corner. Two days later she was walking around, laying down on the different dog beds, and walking up the pet ramp to lay down on the couch. Her tail has been up and wagging all day. We've yet to hear her bark, whine, or growl. She's been hesitant to eat much but Spunky does have a love for cheese. She been fed both dry and wet dog food but what really wins her over is putting some mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top. Spunky resisted taking a walk in our neighborhood on the first night but now with our dog by her side she walks along streets busy with cars, SVUs, and Metro buses. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
