TESSY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Tessy Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of July 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 38 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. Tessy is also shy and must go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. Tessy is Looking For: Her forever home! Tessy is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. She is in her prime as a young dog and hasn't seen enough of the world - she's eager to get her own humans for sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures her family can dream up. Making pup pals along the way would be great, as would going to dog school so she can show how super smart she is. Thing is, right now she's shy so she needs extra patient and loving adopters to help her become more comfortable in new environments, and a welcoming resident dog who will show her how to dog! Most of all, though, she wants to know where she belongs, to be safe and loved all her days. In exchange she promises so much love and loyalty. What do you say? Can you see her by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once this pup has spent time in foster care. Heartworm information: Tessy is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Tessy has completed this activity restriction period. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
