Meet Xicaru

Welcome Xicaru (pron Zee-kah-roo) from Bakersfield Animal Care Center. Xicaru means “beautiful” in the Zapotec language of Oaxaca…and beautiful he is. This 1 year, 51lb border collie isn’t just all looks - he’s a sweet, sweet boy. We’re calling him Zeke for short. He’s playful, dog social, and people friendly. Sorry feline people, no cats. Otherwise, he’s a no-brainer. Zeke recently attended a 2 week board and train with his foster / dog trainer. She’s got him dialed in and is looking to pass the torch to a calm and confident, breed savvy leader as he transitions into a forever home. He’s more than a pretty face. He’s a herder with real drive so he’ll need someone knowledgeable to help him scratch that itch. Zeke is also a very relationship oriented dog who thrives when he knows what’s expected of him, while also being honest that he’d prefer to be someone’s one and only. He’s done well with 95% of the dogs he’s met, but without a confident leader savvy in pack dynamics, he’ll take advantage. He’s also sensitive to wheeled objects - bikes, scooters, strollers. Devin has done a ton of work with him on this but his new person will need to continue some of the strategies she’s employed to control the impulse to chase. On that note, no cats.
