Meet Ziya

Meet Ziya, the white and brown brindle female pittie mix. Ziya originally came into a partnering Shelter as a stray in March. She had puppies in tow, who were swiftly adopted. Staff at that Shelter fell in love with Ziya rooted for her to find an adoptive home. She went to playgroup with well matched dogs and enjoyed zooming around and some light wrestling. After waiting for months for the right home, the Shelter reached out to us to see if a change of scenery would help her to find her people. So, we welcome Ziya to Santa Cruz with open arms. She is still getting to know staff and volunteers but has been a sweetheart. A home with other dogs may be appropriate with a slow, thoughtful introduction. We do not have any history with cats or children. She is demure and reserved at first but once she gets to know people, lets down her guard and is a sweetie. Ziya does have some eye medical care that will require her next family to continue treatment. Our clinic team is available to chat with any potential adopters about what that will look like! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
