Meet Zuko

Some dogs begin life surrounded by warmth and security. Zuko’s story began with uncertainty—but this sweet boy has been proving from the very beginning that sometimes the most beautiful things can grow from the hardest starts. We believe Zuko was born on Christmas Day after his mama’s unhoused owner tragically passed away. Suddenly, his little family was left facing an uncertain future. Against the odds, Zuko, his mama, and his five sisters survived, giving this special boy quite the story before his life had really even begun. As the only boy in a litter of six, Zuko has had plenty of practice navigating life surrounded by sisters! Maybe that’s where his wonderfully easygoing personality comes from. He’s a gentle, affectionate pup who loves cuddles, enjoys being close to his people, and seems perfectly content simply knowing he belongs. Zuko also loves the company of other dogs. He thrives with canine companionship and would do best with a dog of similar size and energy who can be his playmate, adventure buddy, and fellow couch potato when the day is done. Zuko and his sisters appear to be Shepherd mixes. Their mama is a petite 35–40 pounds, but judging by the pups, we suspect dad may have been a considerably bigger guy! Zuko is growing into a large, athletic dog who will need a family ready to give him the activity and enrichment he needs—but once the adventures are over, he’ll be more than happy to settle in for some well-earned snuggles. Zuko’s first Christmas may have marked the beginning of an uncertain journey, but his story doesn’t have to be defined by how it started. He’s ready for the part where he gets the love, security, and family he was always meant to have.
