Meet Cooper: Heartbroken Senior Yorkie Mix Seeks Loving Home After Being Surrendered
Yahoo • May 16, 2026
Cooper is an eight-year-old Yorkie–Poodle mix who was recently surrendered and is now waiting for a new home at a shelter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to the shelter’s posts, he spent his whole life with a single family and arrived confused and subdued by the upheaval of being left behind. A TikTok clip shared by @humanebroward shows radio host Jade Alexander from HITS 97.3 visiting Cooper and offering comfort. In the video he appears as a scruffy, caramel-colored little dog with forward-tilting ears; he wags his tail, sits politely, accepts pets and treats, and looks to the camera with an expression that touched many viewers. The shelter notes that Cooper is affectionate and playful, gets along with other dogs and with cats, and does well around adults and children over the age of two. He enjoys chewing bones and swimming, knows basic commands such as “sit,” and can get a bit vocal when excited — but loves attention and treats. People who saw the video responded with sympathy and urged others to share Cooper’s story. Shelter advocates point out that seniors like Cooper are frequently overlooked, even though older dogs are often house-trained, calmer, and already familiar with basic commands, making them excellent companions for many families. Cooper remains at the Humane Society of Broward County while he waits for someone to give him a second chance. Anyone interested in adopting or learning more can call the shelter at 954-989-3977 or visit the Humane Society of Broward County website; sharing his story is also encouraged to help raise his visibility.
