Cloud’s story began where many shelter tales do: alone and frightened. The 13-year-old Great Pyrenees was found abandoned on the side of the road and taken to a local facility, where he became so overwhelmed that he shut down, trembled and would not even walk out of his kennel. A family in Atlanta, Georgia, stepped in and adopted him. Their new “mom” worked with Cloud using gentle somatic relaxation techniques, and his recovery was swift — he began wagging and prancing within about 24 hours and continued improving over the following weeks. As Cloud settled into his new home he took on a new role: using his large, calm presence to soothe smaller, nervous foster dogs.
