About adopting a Black Labrador Retriever
A black Labrador is simply a Labrador Retriever in the breed's most common coat color, and shelters list the color separately because so many come through. Black dogs in general can wait longer for adoption, and black Labs and Lab mixes are among the most numerous dogs in shelters nationwide, so a listing under this label often means a friendly dog who has been overlooked.
Labradors are outgoing, food-driven, and eager to please, which makes training a pleasure and counter-surfing a lifelong project. Young Labs are boisterous, mouthy, and slow to mature.
