About adopting a Carolina Dog
Sometimes called the American Dingo, the Carolina Dog is a primitive type found living wild in the Southeast, with a tan coat, upright ears, and a fishhook tail. Many shelter dogs listed this way are simply yellow mixes of similar appearance, but true Carolina Dogs have a distinctive set of instincts that adopters should understand.
They are cautious with strangers, slow to trust, and deeply bonded once they do. Prey drive is strong and digging is common. They are clean, quiet, and often house train easily. Exercise needs are moderate, with a daily walk and a chance to explore. Puppies socialized early become more outgoing.
