About adopting a Dachshund
Long, low, and convinced of its own importance, the Dachshund was bred to dig into badger dens, and that history explains the courage, the stubbornness, and the digging. Young Dachshunds in rescue are often bright, funny dogs who need a bit more patience than their size suggests.
House training is the classic Dachshund challenge; a consistent schedule and rewards help, and many adopters find an adult already reliable. They are clever but independent, so training works best as a game with food. Their long backs are vulnerable, which means discouraging jumping from furniture and using ramps or stairs. Exercise needs are moderate, but daily walks keep weight in check.

Are Dachshunds good with children?
