About adopting a Doberman Pinscher
Elegant and fast, the Doberman Pinscher was developed as a personal guardian, and a young one in a shelter is a sensitive, intelligent dog that wants to be near its person constantly. Dobermans are often described as velcro dogs, leaning against legs and following from room to room.
Doberman puppies and adolescents learn quickly and need early socialization to grow into confident adults rather than nervous ones. They are athletic and need daily exercise, but they also want to be indoors with the family; a Doberman left alone in a yard is unhappy. Training should be positive and consistent, since they are sensitive to harsh handling and can become anxious.
