Meet Bruce

Bruce (A239275) is a handsome one-year-old German Shepherd who weighs 85 pounds—and he is still very much a big puppy at heart. Bruce was adopted from us in June and recently returned. From what we understand, he was a young dog who got himself into some mischief. German Shepherds are intelligent, active working dogs who need daily exercise, mental stimulation, training, and plenty of time with their people. With the right structure and commitment, Bruce has tremendous potential to become an amazing companion. Before returning to the shelter, Bruce lived both indoors and outdoors with adults, teenagers, and children. He reportedly got along with other dogs as well. Now that Bruce is back at the shelter, it is clear that he is a lot of dog—strong, energetic, and eager to get moving. Several volunteers have noticed that he pulls very strongly on the leash when leaving the shelter for a walk. After about five minutes, however, the intensity decreases, and he settles in more comfortably. Bruce enjoys toys, cuddles, and giving kisses. He appears to know “sit” and will offer his paw. Beneath all that youthful energy is a sweet, affectionate dog who wants to connect with his people. Bruce needs an adopter who understands German Shepherds and is ready to make a meaningful commitment to exercise, training, structure, and mental enrichment. The time and patience invested in a young dog like Bruce can lead to an incredible bond and a rewarding lifelong relationship.
