Dog found in Toledo field with critical injuries is on the road to recovery

A heartwarming story of teamwork and compassion has emerged from Toledo, Ohio, where a severely injured dog named Maserati was found in a field and is now on the path to recovery. Maserati was discovered by Toledo police officers with a swollen jaw, and X-rays revealed a broken jaw and a lodged bullet. She was taken to Lucas County Canine Care and Control, where the shelter's vet provided critical care.

Lisa Jones, a volunteer with Dogworks, a local foster-based, non-profit rescue, explained that Maserati's case highlights the importance of partnerships between shelters and rescues, especially given the increasing number of injured dogs needing help. Dogworks, which regularly takes in medical cases and senior dogs, has also recently cared for Junie and Rowen, two other dogs with severe medical needs.

Terra Bundy, the director of Lucas County Canine Care and Control, emphasized the necessity of these partnerships, stating that without rescues, many dogs would have to be euthanized due to limited resources. Kaity Ardner, the care center supervisor for LC4, added that by transferring higher medical cases to rescues, the shelter can continue to provide care to over three thousand dogs annually.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of these organizations and dedicated volunteers, Maserati, Junie, and Rowen are now in better health and have found new homes. Maserati is being fostered with the intention to adopt, Junie has already been adopted, and Rowen is still available for adoption. This story underscores the impact of community support and the importance of every dog's chance at a loving home.
