Matt Damon Goes on 'Dream Date' with a Pit Bull Named Betsy Who's Been Waiting to Find a Home for Nearly 2 Years
Yahoo • June 5, 2026
Actor Matt Damon spent time at Eastwood Ranch Foundation’s Animal Rescue and Adoption Facility in Agoura Hills, Calif., on June 5, visiting dogs in need of homes as part of a push tied to California Adopt‑A‑Pet Day on June 6. His visit was shared in a video by the rescue and aimed to raise attention for animals waiting to be adopted and for the statewide effort to reduce shelter overcrowding. The dog at the center of the visit was Betsy, a people‑loving, toy‑obsessed pit bull who has been in Eastwood Ranch’s care for more than a year and a half. Damon highlighted that Betsy has been at the rescue the longest and needs a permanent family rather than a long‑term shelter stay. During the afternoon he also met other dogs available for adoption, including Jojo, Piper — described as deaf and blind — and Duke, a toy‑loving Doberman. Eastwood Ranch is a rescue that focuses on pulling animals from high‑kill shelters and caring for a wide range of pets until they find homes. Damon, who owns rescue pets himself, joked about needing his wife’s approval before going on his “date” with Betsy. The foundation announced it would hold a free community adoption event at the rescue on Saturday in coordination with the statewide Adopt‑A‑Pet Day. Visitors to the center can meet puppies, kittens, adult dogs and cats, senior animals, bonded pairs and special‑needs pets who are all available for adoption. Founder Alison Eastwood pointed to California’s pet overpopulation problem and urged residents to use the adoption day as an opportunity to take action. The rescue encouraged anyone interested to come meet the animals at the event and said more details about Betsy, the adoption process, and the Saturday event are available on Eastwood Ranch Foundation’s website. As of the visit, Betsy and the other animals remain available for adoption and the rescue is asking the public to attend the adoption event, consider adopting, or share information to help find permanent homes for long‑waiting pets.
