RESCUE ROUNDUP: Berry, a senior dog who still has a lot of love to give, has been adopted

Good news to start: Berry, the eight-year-old mixed-breed who was recently highlighted in WSMH’s Rescue Roundup out of Flint, Michigan, has been adopted. The 60-pound dog, who staff described as having slowed a bit with age but still showing playful energy, has found a new home after her time at Genesee County Animal Care. Berry arrived at the shelter as a stray, so staff members, including Hannah Peterson (Social Media Specialist at Genesee County Animal Care), had limited information about her background. Shelter staff noted signs that she hadn’t always received consistent care and said Berry needed some extra attention and veterinary follow-up when she came in. Medically, Berry was current on vaccinations, had been spayed and was microchipped. She was diagnosed as heartworm positive, and the shelter made clear she could be adopted while finishing treatment under veterinary guidance. Those details were part of the shelter’s effort to be transparent with potential adopters about her needs. Personality-wise, Berry was described as affectionate and eager to be close to people — she leaned against visitors, tried to get into laps and rewarded attention with a big, happy expression. Staff said she’s calmer than a young dog but still enjoys play and would thrive in a home where she’s treated gently and given the chance to build trust and daily companionship in her golden years. Although Berry has been adopted, the shelter’s post included information about her on the Genesee County Animal Care Facebook page for anyone who wanted to learn more while she was available. For readers inspired to help senior dogs like Berry, that same shelter page is a good place to find other adoptable seniors, learn about fostering, or see how to support local rescue efforts.
