About adopting a Beagle
Merry, nosy, and built for company, the Beagle is a pack hound that lands in shelters mostly for doing what Beagles do: following a scent out of the yard and baying about it. Under the mischief is a gentle, sturdy dog that tends to get along with nearly anyone.
A young Beagle needs a fenced yard or leash walks without exception, because its nose overrides its ears once a trail appears. They are food-obsessed, which makes training easier but weight harder to manage, so measured meals matter. House training can take patience. Puppies chew and bay, while adults often settle into a reliable routine with steady exercise.
Beagles are commonly excellent with children and other dogs and are among the more forgiving breeds for a first-time adopter. Their voice is loud and their curiosity relentless.
