About adopting a Catahoula Leopard Dog
The Catahoula comes out of Louisiana, where it was bred to work cattle and hogs through swamp and brush. That job shaped a dog that is athletic, independent, and inclined to make its own decisions. Merle coats, spotted patterns, and pale or marbled eyes make them easy to spot on a listing, and many shelter Catahoulas are crossed with hounds or cattle dogs.
Energy is the defining trait. A young Catahoula needs a real outlet, whether running, hiking, scent games, or a sport, and without one will invent projects such as digging or dismantling furniture.
