About adopting a Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie
The Yorkshire Terrier began as a ratter in English mills and never quite forgot it. Under the silky coat and tiny frame is a bold, opinionated terrier that barks at the mail carrier and bosses dogs far larger than itself. Yorkies arrive in shelters from breeder surrenders, owner illness, and homes that expected a quiet lapdog.
They are portable and need only short walks, which suits apartment life. Barking is the usual complaint, and it can be managed but rarely eliminated. House training is notoriously slow, and many adults come with accidents in their history. The coat needs brushing most days if kept long, or regular clipping if kept short. Puppies are fragile and can be injured by a fall or a careless step.
