Franklin County puppies find new homes thanks to sheriff K9 training

In Franklin County, a heartwarming partnership between the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Crisis K9 Unit and the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center has led to two shelter puppies, Daisy and Obi, finding loving homes. These 20-week-old puppies underwent training that prepared them for adoption while also helping the Crisis K9 handlers refine their skills.

Daisy, who was fostered by the Henry family, completed her training and has now been officially adopted by them. The Henrys initially signed up for the foster program through the shelter and were drawn to Daisy due to her sociable and friendly nature. Daisy quickly won their hearts, and after a brief training period, she became a permanent member of their family.

Obi, on the other hand, will continue his training to become a service dog for a U.S. Army Veteran. Sgt. Darrah Metz, who was inspired to become a master K9 trainer by her previous canine partner, Mattis, will oversee Obi's training. The sheriff's office has been instrumental in training other police agencies for free, and this partnership with the shelter has allowed them to find suitable dogs for these agencies.

Both Daisy and Obi came from a litter of puppies surrendered to the shelter, leading to this unique training collaboration. This story highlights the positive impact of such partnerships in finding homes for shelter dogs and providing valuable training experiences for future service animals.
